March 2011 VCdb

We have reviewed AAIA’s March 2011 update to the VCdb and, although some progress has been made, the update still has many problems. If you can, we recommend staying on the January VCdb for now. If you must use the March VCdb, be aware that the table includes duplicate Engines and Models. This means that you MUST map to all duplicate entries or you will lose coverage.

For example, there are two Mercedes-Benz “300SE” models. You would need to map to both of them. Simply using the “Create Exact Maps” will not pick these duplicates up (since that process only attempts to map models that are not already mapped). A similar issue is found with Engines, however, the “Create Exact Maps” function will pick up the duplicates, provided you have defined “Engine Formats.”

A list of the duplicate Car/Light Trucks found in the March VCdb is included at the end of this email. We will continue to keep you up to date with the status of the vehicle table as they are released by AAIA until all issues are resolved.
