PCdb Use Tables

A current initiative for the PCdb is to differentiate between application-specific (ACES) and non-application-specific (PIES) parts in the PCdb. This also ties into the Part Attribute Database (PAdb) project.

In order to identify these two types of part terminology, there are two tables being added to the PCdb. The Use and PartsToUse tables are planned for publication in October 2012, with the introduction of the PAdb following in December 2012.

  • UseID 1 (ACES) Records will be application specific part types, intended for use in ACES. They will not have Part Attributes, but can have Position codes in the PCdb.

  • UseID 2 (PIES) Records will be product specific (generic) part types intended for use in PIES. They will carry Product Attributes, but will not be allowed to have Positions.

It is acceptable for a PartTerminologyID to carry both a 1 and a 2 in the PartstoUse table. These cases represent Part Terminologies that are suitable for both ACES and PIES and therefore they will be allowed to carry both Product Attributes and Positions.

Since Positions exist on the CodeMaster table rather than the Part table we will still be capable of providing the unique record required for linking to the PAdb. Additional information on the Use tables will be released closer to the October publication.
