Table Export is Stripping Leading Zeros

Q: We are having a problem with the format of the Item-Level GTIN in the Table Export Maintenance.
It is a 14 digit number with 2 leading 00’s. It changes to 12 digits without the leading 00’s. I tried a format of '00000000000000. That did not work. What format will maintain the leading 00’s?

A: It shouldn’t be necessary to apply any formatting.

The table export doesn’t remove leading 0s. If you export to csv or txt and open in Excel, Excel will remove the leading 0s.

You can avoid that by choosing Excel as the file type of export. If you have a csv or txt file you want to open in Excel, you can do a File > Open and choose text file as the file type. Then go through the import wizard where you can change the type of the GTIN columns from General to Text.
