More on the Scheduler and Launch Services

The Scheduled Loader is launched by the Windows Task Scheduler. There’s no way to tell from within PIESCentral where or if the Loader is installed. It’s possible that it is installed but not set up in the Task Scheduler.

The Scheduled Loader does not require the Launch service. The Launch Service and the Scheduled Loader both have configuration programs, but they need to be installed and run on the machine where Launch and the Scheduled Loader are installed. They can’t be run directly from PIESCentral.

The only configuration that is necessary from PIESCentral is under Administration > Launch Configuration where you enter the IP Address and the Port for Launch. After that you can test it by setting up a scheduled process and trying to execute using the “Run Now” button. (The “Run Now” button is disabled if the Launch is not configured).

Launch itself has built in logging that is accessible from the Launch Configuration program. This can be useful when first setting up Launch. Once Launch is working, the logging can be turned off.

There is no way for an end user to completely set up and configure Launch and the Scheduled Loader. They must be installed on a server and will probably require some IT support until they are up and running.
