PartsPRO Electronic Catalog

(extracted from a NAPA authored document)

The NAPA PartsPRO Electronic Catalog is the latest version of electronic cataloging for NAPA stores. It differs dramatically from the Legacy Electronic Catalog in both structure and content. The PartsPRO Electronic Catalog is more a parts information system than a parts catalog. This document will define the data that NAPA suppliers must provide.

The heart of the PartsPRO application look-up is the NAPA PartsPRO Vehicle table. The vehicle table defines a valid vehicle using Make, Year, Model and 12 additional “Specific Conditions”. These Specific Conditions are Engine, Body Style, Sub Model, Drive Train, Suspension Type, Steering Type, Engine VIN Code, Engine Aspiration, Engine Fuel Type, Engine Fuel Delivery, Transmission Type, and Brake System Type. NAPA publishes the valid vehicle table on a regular basis and makes it available to suppliers via an FTP web site. See Appendix A for details on how the revisions to the vehicle table will be handled.

Suppliers submit data to NAPA in the format defined below. Only products that are approved by the NAPA Product Department may be submitted with catalog data. Before submitting application data you must contact your NAPA CDA to have your Manufacturer Product Class Codes (MPCC) created. MPCCs are created for every part type that a supplier provides to NAPA.

When providing application data there are required and optional fields. You must provide data for the required fields and should provide data in the optional fields only as required to sell the part. Do not provide data that is not required or may be redundant. The application look-up system that we provide to our NAPA stores is designed to efficiently display application data. If you provide unnecessary data it will be displayed to the counterperson and may actually slow down the sales transaction by requiring the counterperson to read information that is not required to make the sale.

If you need to provide information in addition to Specific Conditions you may send one or more comment codes. Comments are all assigned by NAPA. You will be provided a complete list of comments. When you need to use a comment please check the published PartsPRO Comment File to determine if a suitable comment has already been added. You should not request a comment be added to the system until you have determined that a suitable comment does not exist.

When providing application data there are several fields that allow multiple values to be submitted in the same field. For example, you could send in a data record for a “Left Handed Cam Stretcher” and include codes for both the 305 and 350 engine if that part fits both of those engines. This would allow you to send a single data record as opposed to different records for each application. When submitting multiple values in Specific Condition fields each value must be valid in combination with all other Specific Conditions populated for that record. When a data record is received with multiple values for Specific Condition fields the data is loaded into our maintenance system as separated records. If this data ever needs to be removed separate data records will need to be provided for all combinations that resulted from the multiple values in the Specific Condition field(s).

⚠️NOTE: We recommend that multiple values not be populated for any field except the Comment field in application data records. We have found that submitting multiple values in Specific Conditions fields frequently results in problems with the data file, either with bad or “dirty” data.

When you provide application data to NAPA you may only provide Add or Delete records. If you have provided a record to us previously and have determined that it needs to be corrected you will have to provide a Delete record to remove the old data and an Add record to add the correct data. We do not allow changes to existing records.
